About carrom

Carrom is played on a square wooden board with a pocket in each corner. Players flick a heavier disc, the striker, to knock their pieces into the pockets.

Ludington, Michigan

The American carrom board is said to have been invented in 1889 by Henry L. Haskell, a businessman in Ludington, Michigan. He patented his design for the game board on October 26, 1897.

The family game

In a 2013 comment on Amish America, one reader remembered:

“Carrom was and is THE Game in my father's family. (Our name for Crokinole was ‘the other side of the carom board.’)”
